October 18th-October 29th

I have now actually something to write about. (I have been putting off writting another post because I had no idea what to write about but now I know.)

The 19th of October was Crabfest at Rotary. Most of the members and their spouses and including myself, all went to an office building for dinner. Once there we had crab. (Normally you would think that dinner might include a side dish and mabye some salad but not in Norway. The meal consisted of crab with more crab on the side and of course bread!!) Dessert though was very good. It was something that they call Napolean Cake. It is a pastry with cream in the middle. It is almost impossible to eat without making a mess.

Well, I had my first hockey game on the 20th. It was not the greatest. I was so nervous the first period that whenever I got the puck I would not give myself time to thing and would end up doing something stupid with it. We were doing good the first period, getting tons of shots but not scoring any goals. Thats when Skedsmo (the team that we were playing against) started to score. The end result was 11-4 in favour of Skedsmo. I think that we have some things that we have to improve on.

Last weekend, I had a Rotary District Conference in Hamar. I left early in the morning. Saturday consisted of us meeting the Rebounds (us being the people who are currently here on exchange and the Rebounds are the ones who have just gottn back from their year away)( There was a guy who went to Vancouver! (So we talked alot about Canadian things like Timmies) and planning for our presentation the next day. I got very little sleep that night. We opened up the conference the next day with our presentation. Rølf (the guy who went to Canada and I sang "O Canada". The group then went to the Hedmarkmuseet to learn about Hedmark's history. Our day ended after that.

Almost all of the first grade students (which inclues me) went to the movie theatre on Tuesday to see "Armadilo". It was about a bunch of Danish Soldiers and the time in Afghanistan. It was in Danish with Norwegian subtitles, so I was able to understand most of what was going on. (The way Danish is spoken is completely different than Norwegian. They have different tones.)

Sorry that there aren't any pictures. I just don't have the patience to wait for them to download.

  1. Hey Kate, want to hear more about the food!! What are you eating for lunch everyday at school. Do they have a cafeteria and if so, is the food healthy? Looking forward to you becoming more patient to add some pics!

  2. For lunch I usually have a yogurt and something else. They have a kantine. The food that they sell is mostly healthy; yogurt, sandwiches, salad, fruit, milk, etc...I will add photos soon

  3. Hi Kate! My first blog ever ...hee haw. Looking forward to seeing some pics and hearing more of your adventures. It sounds like your diet is quite different from that of most students here (that is, poutine I'm afraid). Next year we have an imposed healthy menu so we should see an improvement by the time you are back!
